SpeedON Mild Citrus Low Fructose gel is a 60g-carbohydrate performance gel with a 4:1 glucose to fructose ratio, formulated for athletes with fructose intolerance or fructose malabsorption. With less fructose, there's a lower risk of lower-GI upset such as bloating and diarrhoea during long efforts.
What's in it
- 60g of carbohydrate per gel
- Glucose to fructose in a 4:1 ratio, a low-fructose, glucose-dominant blend
- Aqueous hydrocolloid gel texture, designed to release carbohydrate steadily rather than dissolving instantly into stomach fluids
- Mild citrus flavour to delay palate fatigue
Why low fructose?
Fructose is absorbed by a separate gut transporter from glucose, which is why many gels use a glucose:fructose blend. But if your gut struggles with fructose, high-fructose gels can cause bloating or loose stools. SpeedON says fructose malabsorption affects an estimated 30-40% of people; this gel keeps most of the carbohydrate as glucose.
When to use it
- Long runs, marathons, ultras and rides if standard 2:1 or 1:0.8 products upset your stomach
- Athletes who have tested or suspect fructose sensitivity
- Anyone who wants a very concentrated, low-sweetness gel to reduce flavour fatigue
How to use it
Each gel is a large 60g serve. Take it in sips over time, for example one gel across an hour for around 60g per hour. Practise in training first.
