First Look
One of Asics longest longest-standing models in the Asics range, the Kayano is a household name. The 32 brings a new feel and look to the table, featuring a sleeker profile while retaining the beloved cushion from previous iterations. The shoe has been refined to offer a smoother transition and a more comfortable ride. This has been achieved by a slightly lowered pitch of 8mm and a sleeker outsole, as talked about above. This is Asics' flagship model, one that has undergone numerous changes over the years, but now appears to be on the right track.
FIT
The fit, I believe, has made a good jump forward from the 30s and 31s. I always felt they were a little clumpy and could never really get a good lockdown fit on the upper. The improved underfoot shaping of the midsole allows the upper to hug the foot's natural shape more closely, providing a more secure feel. The model is available in a range of width options to ensure a perfect fit for everyone. The heel is very padded, but I still feel it fits true to size within the Asics franchise.
FEEL
This is where the 32 to me separates itself from the 31. The updated model offers a significantly more pronounced midfoot arch feel and enhanced medial stability. The Medial side of the shoe sits on a slight camber to help limit pronation movement. The new and improved cutouts help provide stability in the correct places, all while keeping a comfortable feel. The sleeker shape helps encourage a more midfoot strike and a seamless transition to toe-off, all good features for an everyday jogger.
FUNCTION
This is your mileage workhorse. The 32 is designed to provide medial stability for miles on end. This isn't a model for speed, but rather for use daily on long and easy run days. It will handle the light gravel and off-road surfaces, but it is made for the road.
Overall, I think this is a great update to a well-renowned model in the Asics range. My only thing I would like to see in future models is the addition of some more exuberant foam. Adding the likes of some FFBLAST+ would significantly improve the on-foot feel and boost the underfoot feel in a huge way.
