The Nike Pegasus 42 is shaping up to be a refined, more responsive update to Nike’s long-running daily trainer lineup, one of the longest if not the longest-standing models in any brand's line. The biggest change is the addition of a full-length Air Zoom unit paired with ReactX foam, which gives the shoe a noticeably springier and smoother ride compared to the Pegasus 41. Early impressions suggest that while it still delivers the stable, predictable feel the Pegasus series is known for, it now leans slightly more toward performance, making it versatile enough for easy runs, long runs, and even some faster efforts.

This new hierarchy in the Nike family models now offers options on either side of the Peg 42, with the Peg Plus being a more responsive, lightweight offering, and the Peg Premium, which is a higher stacked, highly cushioned model.
The shape is well-fitting with a generous toe box. The Peg model has always had a snug fit around the midfoot and heel, providing great lockdown. In terms of length, they fit true to size with other Nikes and other brands.

The forefoot cushioning has also been improved, offering better comfort over longer distances. The combination of the React foam and Air Zoom padding is an energetic, and the updated upper appears more breathable with a more accommodating fit.
That said, the Pegasus 42 isn’t a dramatic overhaul. It remains closer to an evolution than a complete redesign, and some runners may find it still a bit on the heavier side compared to more modern lightweight trainers. It also doesn’t reach the ultra-soft cushioning levels of max-stack shoes, so those looking for a plush, pillowy feel might prefer alternatives.

Overall, though, the Pegasus 42 looks like a strong all-rounder—reliable, slightly more energetic than before, and a safe upgrade for anyone who already enjoys the Pegasus line.
