One of the longest-standing models in the Asics lineup, the Cumulus, has significantly changed over the years. The 27, however, is only a slight update on the 26. The shoe is a neutral cushioned offering from Asics that isn’t overly stacked. This is a simple, reliable daily trainer, and it is a perfect option at that. Comfort is key with this model and has been constant throughout the 27 iterations.
FEEL
While maintaining its neutral stance, the Cumulus 27 incorporates subtle stability elements. The midfoot is slightly wider than in the previous model, providing a more stable base. Pronounced sidewalls around the heel and a moderately stiff heel counter work together to cradle the foot, enhancing stability without compromising comfort. The widened base of the shoe helps this aspect as it provides you with more shoe to land on. It’s a smooth shoe; this is aided by the addition or rather the lack of outsole tread. It softens the initial impact and makes for a smoother motion through the stance to toe off phase. The Cumulus 27 retains the FF BLAST™ PLUS midsole foam, however, the tooling of this foam feels a fair bit firmer and less responsive than in some of their other models with the FF BLAST™ PLUS. This cushioning provides effective impact absorption while promoting a lively toe-off. Additionally, Pure GEL technology is incorporated in the heel to enhance landing comfort further.
FIT
A notable update in the Cumulus 27 is the engineered mesh upper, which offers improved breathability and an adaptive fit. This design ensures a comfortable and secure feel throughout your run. The tongue has been slightly thickened to prevent slipping, and a new knit heel pull tab has been added to make it easier to put on and off. The shape of the last is very accommodating and I didn’t seem to have too many issues. It fits true to size, so there shouldn’t be any issues with the size.
